.This workshop will answer some unique and important questions about movement and dance relative to culture, wellness, energetics, and spirituality through the lens of African movement while we learn basic African movement and the nuances within them. Some of these questions include: How do the 5 Rhythms show up in African movement and dance? How are the chakras related to how people move and dance? What tendencies/trends are evident in African movement according to region? What does the way Africans move say about African people and culture? How is movement related to wellness? What does African movement say about the spirituality of the people? And so on. This workshop will also emphasize WHY Africans dance is more important than HOW in the process of learning African movement. Movements that will be taught will be contemporary African dance styles relative to their traditional roots. We will also explore strong solo dancing as a way to show up more fully in the world as well as the partner and group dynamic.
